Watch The Med Alarm Phone Investigations – 06th of October 2019Case name: 2019_10_06-CM200
Situation: 40 travellers rescued by Open Arms
Status of WTM Investigation: Concluded
Place of Incident: Central Mediterranean
Summary of the Case:
On 6th of October around 2pm CEST we got a distress call from a satellite phone but the travellers couldn‘t pass us a GPS position. They stated to have left 1am from Zuwara with 46 people on board, among them also women and 2 children. By a relative who called some minutes later we learned that they might have passed an oil platform. We recharged their satellite phone credit to keep in communication with them, but at 14:35 CEST we spoke the last time to the travellers. We still lacked the GPS position so couldn't alert any Coastguard. At 20:10 CEST we learned by Twitter that Open Arms rescued a boat in this area. We finally found out that it matched with our case.
