Summary of Case: In the late evening of January 1st 2022 Alarm Phone was called by a relative who alerted us to a group of 12 people in distress including two minors. The caller related the group had left from Annaba, Algeria, towards Italy in a white rubber boat. The contact numbers of people on the boat the caller provided us, couldn't be reached. We forwarded the alert to authorities at 23.04 CET. The next day January 2nd the relative messaged us, relating that the boat had been found and all travellers had been brought to a reception center on Sardegna.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets. In the open sea, it usually correspond to the outer extent of the contiguous zone, the area in which “State may exercise the control necessary to prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws” (UNCLOS, art. 33).
