Summary of the Case:

In the morning of 5 November 2022 our team was alerted by 8 men who had stranded on Samos. They reported that there is one injured person among them in a critical condition. They reported that they had no water or food since yesterday morning, and their clothes were wet. At 8:35 CET we alerted Greek authorities and several NGOs about their situation.
At 11:49 CET Doctors without borders (MSF) confirmed via E-Mail that they had found them. They wrote: “We would like to confirm that the MSF team provided medical and humanitarian assistance to 8 people. Several people were in emotional distress and exhausted and sustained minor injuries. Information for the same location with the same number of people reached us as well from Human Rights Legal Project at 10.47. We consider the 2 cases the same group of people.”

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets. In the open sea, it usually correspond to the outer extent of the contiguous zone, the area in which “State may exercise the control necessary to prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws” (UNCLOS, art. 33).
