Summary of the Case:
In the morning of the 29th of August Alarm Phone was informed about 23 people who were pushed back from Greece to Turkish waters. We established contact to the people on the boat. They reported an attack and told us their engine was stolen and they were thus floating in the water. We also got the information that one person on the boat lost consciousness. At 10:44 CEST we informed the Turkish Coast Guard about the situation. The officer told us that they have been informed by the Greek authorities about this group already. At 11:54 CEST a relative of the people on the boat confirms that they were rescued by Turkish Coast Guard.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets. In the open sea, it usually correspond to the outer extent of the contiguous zone, the area in which “State may exercise the control necessary to prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws” (UNCLOS, art. 33).
