Case name: 2022_08_15-EASTERN MED - 967

Situation: Group of 10 travellers in distress on Samos island, rescued by MSF

Status of WTM Investigation: Concluded

Place of Incident: Eastern Med

Summary of the Case:

Around midday of the 15th of August 2022, Alarm Phone received a call by a relative alerting us to a group of 10 people in distress on land, on Samos Island. The caller related that there was a group of young people including one injured person who fell down a cliff, all were exhausted from hunger and thirst, and some of the group needed medical attention due to health problems. We couldn’t manage to establish a good connection to the group. We alerted the authorities and several NGOs at 13:36 sharing the GSP location of the group, and received a response from MSF that they will search for the group. At 14:58 we received the news that all 10 of the group were found and assisted. 2 people were taken to hospital and 8 to the camp.
