Case name: 2022_10_1_Eastern Med_1025

Situation: 2 people arrived on Samos, 6 people unknown outcome

Status of WTM Investigation: Concluded

Place of Incident: Eastern Med

Summary of the Case: On the 1st of October 2022, we are alerted to a group of 8 people on the island of Samos who were hiding in the woods and reported to us that they were very cold, hungry and thirsty. They told us some in the group were injured and they were in urgent need of assistance. We alerted the Greek authorities and NGOs on the island by email that the group needed assistance and wished to claim asylum. One person from the group told us their situation is critical and one person is fainting. We received confirmation from Doctors without Borders by email that they will go to look for the group, however they did not find them at the location. We contacted the travellers again and got a new position, they told us that the group has split and that five of them left and have not come back, they feared they have been taken by the police. In the afternoon we received news that Doctors without Borders assisted two people from the group, it is unknown what happened to the others, though we suspect a pushback took place.
