Summary of the Case: Early in the morning on the 1st of October, we received an alert for 8 people who had arrived on the island of Samos. They told us that they have wet clothes, and are extremely cold and shivering. They also told us they have not eaten or drank since they had arrived the day before. We alerted the Greek authorities and NGOs on the island by email. We received confirmation from Doctors without borders in the afternoon that the group had been found.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets. In the open sea, it usually correspond to the outer extent of the contiguous zone, the area in which “State may exercise the control necessary to prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws” (UNCLOS, art. 33).
