Situation: 48 travellers in distress in the Central Med, rescued by NGO vessel Nadir.

Status of WTM Investigation: Concluded

Place of Incident: Central Mediterranean

Summary of the case: On Wednesday the 19th of June 2024, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted to a group of 48 travellers, including nine women and two children, in distress in the Central Mediterranean Sea. The travellers had left from Zawiyya, Libya, the previous evening on a black rubber boat. They told us that the boat was losing air and that their engine was no longer working. We managed to get their GPS position and immediately alerted the relevant search and rescue authorities, relaying all the information we had. Later, we learned that the travellers had been rescued by the NGO vessel Nadir.
