Summary of the case: On Saturday the 18th of May 2024, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted to a group of 25 travellers, including three women and three children, in distress in the Central Mediterranean Sea. The travellers had left from Libya the previous day on a white fiberglass boat. They told us that they were out of fuel and therefore drifting. We managed to get their GPS position and immediately alerted the relevant search and rescue authorities, relaying all the information we had. We stayed in contact with the travellers and passed on their updated positions to authorities when possible. Later, we lost contact to the travellers and not long after learned that a group matching the description we had been given had arrived to Lampedusa.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets.
