Watch The Med Alarm Phone Investigations – 9th of May 2021

Case name: 2021_05_09-CM428
Situation: 97 people, all men and many minors departed from Zuwarah and were probably rescued to Lampedusa
Status of WTM Investigation: Unconfirmed
Place of Incident: Central Mediterranean Sea

Summary of the Case:
On the 9th of May 2021 at 14:22h CEST, the Alarm Phone received a call from a satellite phone. The 97 men who started from Zuwarah in a blue wooden boat two days ago reported about their horrible situation. The waves were high and they run out of food and water. We relayed all GPS positions we received to the authorities. The last GPS position showed cleary that the boat was drifting. Nevertheless the Coastguards couldn't find the people to whom we lost contact after 19:49h CEST and we had to close this case without a clear outcome. Very probably they have been rescued to Lampedusa.
