Summary of the case: On Friday the 17th of May 2024 just before midnight, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted by a relative to a group of 45 travellers, including two women and five children, in distress in the Central Mediterranean Sea. The travellers had left from Sfax in the evening of the 14th of May on an iron boat. We were not able to establish direct contact to the travellers and did not know their GPS position. However, we immediately alerted the relevant search and rescue authorities, relaying all the information we had. For several days we tried to understand what had happened to the travellers but to no avail. Eventually, we had to close the case without knowing the fate of the travellers.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets.
