Summary of the case: On Saturday the 18th of May 2024, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted by a relative to a group of 46 travellers in distress in the Central Mediterranean Sea. The travellers had left from Sfax on the 14th of May on an iron boat. We were not able to establish direct contact to the travellers and did not know their GPS position. However, we immediately alerted the relevant search and rescue authorities, relaying all the information we had. We were never able to reach the travellers, nor match the boat with any of those that arrived to Lampedusa. Eventually, we had to close the case without knowing the fate of the travellers.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets.
