Situation: 45 travellers in distress in the Central Med, rescued by NGO vessel Nadir.
Status of WTM Investigation: Concluded
Place of Incident: Central Mediterranean
Summary of the case: On Tuesday the 6th of August 2024, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted to a group of 45 travellers, including two women and three children, in distress in the Central Mediterranean Sea. The travellers had left from Sabratha, Libya, the previous morning on a blue wooden boat. They told us that they had no more food and fuel let and were therefore drifting. We were not able to get their GPS position but alerted the relevant search and rescue authorities, relaying all the information we had. We stayed in contact with the travellers and later in the evening we got their position and immediately forwarded it to the authorities. We relayed updates from the boat as often as possible. Later, we learned that the travellers had been rescued by the NGO vessel Nadir.
