Watch The Med Alarm Phone Investigations – 31th of December 2023
Case name: 2023_12_31-ATL084
Situation: One boat with 27 travellers that started from El Jadida arrived in Cadiz
Status of WTM Investigation: Concluded
Place of Incident: Atlantic Ocean

Summary of the Case: In the night to the 31st of December, a relative informed Alarm Phone about a rubber boat with 27 travellers that left from El Jadida, Morocco, to Cadiz, Spain, on 28th of December. The shift team could not reach the travellers but still relayed all the information to the Spanish search and rescue organization Salvamento Maritimo. The shift team further called Salvamento Maritimo in Cadiz and Tarifa to find out, if the boat had been rescued, but did not get information about the boat. Throughout the day, a rumour emerged that this boat had been rescued, but the numbers of travellers on the rescued boat and this case did not quite match. The shift team tried to verify the rumour by matching the names of those on the rescued boat and of one of the people of this case - eventually it was the relative who confirmed in the first hours of the new year that the travellers had arrived in Cadiz.
