Case name: 2022_04_30-ATL022

Situation: 23 travellers in distress in the Atlantic, close to Casablanca, brought back to Morocco by the Moroccan navy.

Status of WTM Investigation: Concluded

Place of Incident: Atlantic

Summary of the case: On Sunday the 30th of April 2023, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted to a group of 23 travellers, all men and including some minors, in distress in the Atlantic Ocean. The travellers had left from Azemour on a blue rubber boat in the 25th of April in the early hours of the morning. We were not able to establish direct contact to the boat, and the relative had lost contact to the travellers as well. However, we immediately alerted the relevant search and rescue authorities, relaying all the information we had.
We stayed in contact with relatives and authorities for days, and eventually learned that the travellers had been brought back to Morocco by the Moroccan navy.
