Watch The Med Alarm Phone Investigations – 14th of September 2023

Case name: 2023_09_14-WM0761

Situation: 16 people missing, departure from Mostaganem

Status of WTM Investigation: Concluded

Place of Incident: Western Mediterranean

Summary of the Case:

On the 14th of September, Alarm Phone was alerted by a relative to a red boat that had left from the Algerian city of Mostaganem on the 11th of September. The boat carried 16 people in total. Since their departure, no one was able to reach those aboard. Alarm Phone alerted the Spanish search and rescue organisation Salvamento Maritimo and the Algerian rescue authorities. Additionally, a tweet was published. Alarm Phone continued to reach out to the travellers but without result. Furthermore, the shift team contacted the authorities multiple times. Sadly, we did not receive any confirmation of the travellers arrival or any other conclusive information on their fate. We fear their disappearance. We very much hope they made it safely to the shore. Our thoughts are with the relatives left in limbo while waiting for news of their loved ones.
