Situation: Around 50 travellers in distress in the Atlantic Ocean, probably rescued to Lanzarote.

Summary of the case: On Tuesday the 13th of June 2023, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted to a group of around 50 travellers, including a small child, in distress in the Atlantic Ocean. The travellers had left from Akhfenir and were heading towards Fuerteventura. We were not able to reach the travellers but got their GPS position from a relative. We then immediately alerted the Spanish search and rescue organisation Salvamento Maritimo as well as the Moroccan rescue authorities to the distress situation. The following days we learned that a boat roughly matching the description we had been given had been rescued to Lanzarote. However, we were not able to confirm whether the boat in question was the one we had been alerted to. We very much hope all the travellers arrived safely!

Border police patrols
