Summary of the Case: On the 26th of December, a relative informed Alarm Phone about a boat that left from Tan Tan on the 25th of December. The boat carried 47 travellers, among them 5 women. The shift team could not establish contact to the travellers but informed the Spanish search and rescue organisation about it. During the following hours, the shift team tried to reach the travellers and request information at multiple authorities, including the Spanish coast guard and police, without receiving a response about the travellers' whereabouts. In the end, it was the relative who informed the Alarm Phone shift team late in the evening that the boat had arrived.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets. In the open sea, it usually correspond to the outer extent of the contiguous zone, the area in which “State may exercise the control necessary to prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws” (UNCLOS, art. 33).
