Summary of the Case: On December 7th, the Alarm Phone was notified by concerned relatives of a boat with 42 people that had left Lamsid near Boujdour, Morocco at 4:00am earlier that day. We were unable to establish direct contact the boat, and alerted the the Spanish search and rescue organisation Salvamento Maritimo with the information we were given. The following morning, we were able to confirm via relatives as well Salvamento Maritimo that they had rescued the boat.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets. In the open sea, it usually correspond to the outer extent of the contiguous zone, the area in which “State may exercise the control necessary to prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws” (UNCLOS, art. 33).
