Case name: 2022_06_15-WM025

Situation: 7 travellers in distress in the Alboran Sea, rescued by Salvamento Maritimo.

Status of WTM Investigation: Concluded

Place of Incident: Western Mediterranean

Summary of the case: On Wednesday the 15th of June 2022, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted by a relative to a group of seven travellers, all men, in distress in the Alboran Sea. The travellers had left from Tamsamane in the early hours of the morning on a black rubber boat and were heading towards Motril. The relative told us that the travellers were running out of fuel when they had spoken to the the boat two hours previously. We were not able to establish a direct contact to the boat, but alerted the Spanish search and rescue organisation Salvamento Maritimo to the distress of the travellers. Just past midnight the following day we learned from the relative that the travellers had been rescued by Salvamento Maritimo. In a phone call to Salvamento Maritimo they confirmed the rescue.
