Watch The Med Alarm Phone Investigations – 6th of May 2021

Case name: 2021_05_06-WM598

Situation: 6 people started from Morrocco in a red zodiac and reached Spain

Status of WTM Investigation: concluded

Place of Incident: Western Mediterranean

Summary of the Case:

On 6th of May 2021 at 00:42h CEST the Alarm Phone received the information that 7 people, all men and among them 1 minor, departed at 5h am from Temsamen. They left Morrocco in a blue zodiac. The telephone numbers we were provided with couldn’t be reached. At 00:55h we called Salvamento Maritimo in Madrid to inform about the distress case. At 09:10h we called Salvamento Maritimo in Almeria to ask for information. The officer told that there were ongoing rescue operations: one boat with 7 people in a red zodiac and another boat with 6 people. We agreed to speak later again. At 12:47h Salvamento Maritimo Almeria corrected their former information, it has been only one boat which was rescued. Some hours later the caller who originally alerted us to the boat confirmed the rescue of the travellers to Motril. Boza!
