Case name: 2022_02_11-WM014

Situation: Around 20 travellers in distress in the Western Med, rescued by Salvamento Maritimo.

Status of WTM Investigation: Concluded

Place of Incident: Western Mediterranean

Summary: On Friday the 11th of February 2022, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted by a relative to a group of around 20 travellers, all young men, in distress in the Western Mediterranean Sea. The travellers had left from Algeria the previous afternoon at around 16.00 CET. According to the relative, the boat was close to Alicante, but had run out of fuel. We were not able to establish direct contact to the boat, but relayed all the information we had to the Spanish search and rescue organisation Salvamento Maritimo. In the early afternoon, the relative informed us that the travellers had been rescued by Salvamento Maritimo and that they were all safe.
