Summary of the case: On Tuesday the 3rd of September 2024, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted by a relative to a group of 12 travellers, including women and children, in distress in the Western Mediterranean Sea. The travellers had left from Sidi Fredj, Algeria, the previous evening and were heading towards the Balearic Islands. We were not able to establish direct contact to the boat and did not know their GPS position. However, we immediately alerted the relevant search and rescue authorities, relaying all the information we had. Later, we learned from the relative that the group had arrived in Alicante, Spain.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets.
