Situation: 62 travellers in distress in the Atlantic Sea, rescued by Salvamento Maritimo to the Canary Islands.
Status of WTM Investigation: Concluded
Place of Incident: Atlantic Sea
Summary: On Tuesday the 1st of February 2022, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted by a relative to a group of 62 travellers, including 16 women and four children, in distress in the Atlantic Sea. The travellers had left the same morning from around Boujdour on a grey rubber boat. We managed to reach the travellers and got their GPS position which we forwarded, together with all other information we had, to the Spanish search and rescue organisation Salvamento Maritimo. We stayed in touch with the travellers and relayed their updated GPS positions to Salvamento Maritimo when possible. Online we could see a rescue vessel of Salvamento Maritimo approaching the position of the boat in distress. The following day Salvamento Maritimo confirmed that they had rescued the travellers.
