Summary of Case: In the early morning of January 18th Alarm Phone was called by a group of 10 women, two children and 44 men in distress. The caller group had departed from Tantan in a zodiac and that their engine had stopped working. They sent us a GPS position. We alerted the authorities and passed on the location of the travelers at 03.46 CET. At 04.45 CET the Spanish Search and Rescue organisation Salvamento Marítimo (SM) Las Palmas confirmed a SAR vessel had been sent to search for the 56 people in distress. At 08.14 CET, SM Las Palmas confirmed they had rescued a boat of 56 people to Arrecife, Lanzarote. Since SMs' description matched information given by the caller in distress, we closed the case and confirmed the rescue.
