Summary of the case: On Thursday the 20th of January 2022, the Alarm Phone shift team was called directly by a group of around 100 travellers, including 10 women and 10 children, in distress in the Central Mediterranean Sea. The travellers had left the previous morning at around 01.00 CET on a grey wooden boat and had thus been at sea for more than 24 hours. We managed to get their position, and forwarded all the information we had to all relevant search and rescue authorities. We stayed in contact with the travellers and forwarded their updated position to the authorities when possible. Later in the morning, we learned that the travellers had been rescued by the NGO rescue ship Mare Jonio.

Border police patrols
