Situation: 51 travelers (3 women (one of them pregnant) 48 men) left from Zuwarah, Libya. In distress in Maltese SAR zone. Rescue by Sea-Watch 4.

Summary of the Case:
On the 1st of May 2021 around 16:00h CEST, The Alarm Phone was contacted by a relative of someone on a boat in distress. There were 51 travelers, among them three women (one of them pregnant) and 48 men. They had left from Zuwarah, Libya on a double-decker wooden boat. They were in the Maltese Search and Rescue zone. Our shift team alerted the Maltese authorities. Finally, the travelers were rescued by the crew of the Sea-Watch 4, while the rescue ship was already carrying more than 400 rescued people without the assistance of the competent European authorities.

  • Border police patrols
