Place of Incident: Atlantic Sea.
Summary: On Thursday the 25th of November 2021, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted by a relative to a group of 58 travellers, including 10 women and two children, in distress in the Atlantic Sea. The travellers had left from Laayoune two days previously on a rubber boat. We reached the travellers who told us that water was coming in to the boat and we could see that the weather in the area was bad. The people had also run out of food and drinking water, and none of the travellers had life vests. We alerted the Spanish search and rescue organisation Salvamento Maritimo, passing on all the information we had about the distress of the travellers, including their GPS position. We stayed in touch with the travellers and forwarded their updated positions to Salvamento Maritimo. At around 21.00 CET the travellers told us that they could see a vessel approaching. After this, we could no longer reach the travellers. The following day the Moroccan rescue authorities informed us that they had intercepted the boat, and that one person onboard had died. They told us that the travellers were taken back to Laayoune.
