Status of WTM Investigation: Concluded
Place of Incident: Western Mediterranean
Summary On Sunday the 14th of November 2021, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted by a relative to a group of 24 travellers in distress in the Western Mediterranean Sea. The travellers had left from Bouyafar in the early hours of the morning, heading towards Motril on a grey rubber boat. We were not able to reach the boat and did therefore not know their exact location, but we relayed all information we had to the Spanish search and rescue organisation Salvamento Maritimo. A few hours later, Salvamento Maritimo confirmed to us that they had managed to localise the boat and would coordinate a rescue operation. At 02.30 CEST the relative confirmed to us that the travellers had been rescued by Salvamento Maritimo and were being brought to Motril.
