Summary On Thursday the 11th of November 2021 shortly before midnight, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted by a relative to a group of 15 travellers in distress in the Western Mediterranean Sea. The travellers had left from Temsamane the same morning and were heading towards Motril on a blue polyester boat. We were not able to reach the travellers, but relayed the information we had to the Spanish search and rescue organisation Salvamento Maritimo. We never managed to reach the travellers despite trying many times. The following day, the relative informed us that the travellers had managed to arrive by themselves to Motril, and that everyone was safe.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets. In the open sea, it usually correspond to the outer extent of the contiguous zone, the area in which “State may exercise the control necessary to prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws” (UNCLOS, art. 33).
