Case name: 20210117-WM553
Situation: Five travelers in distress close to Motril. Left from Al Hoceima, Morocco, and rescued by Salvamento Marítimo.
Status of WTM Investigation: Concluded
Place of Incident: Western Mediterranean Sea

Summary of the Case:
on 17th of January 2021 at 15:43h CET, the Alarm Phone was informed about a boat in distress, carrying five travelers. They had left from Al Hoceima, Morocco, in the early morning in a black boat. We tried to reach the travelers, but could not get through to them, so we informed the Spanish Search and Rescue organization Salvamento Marítimo (SM) at 16:19h CET. At 17:00h, we had still not reached the people in distress and talked to SM Almería. They could not give us an update, and we agreed to call back in two hours. At 19:23h CET, we reached someone on the boat, but the connection was too bad to talk. At 21:00h, we asked for an update from SM Almería, but they did not have any news for us. At 22:00h CET, we received a GPS location from the boat. We passed it to the coast guards. At 23:05h CET, we learned that the travelers had been rescued by Salvamento Marítimo.
