Situation: 17 travelers start from Boumerdes, Algeria, towards Spain. No final confirmation of their arrival/rescue.

Summary of the case: On the 21st September 2021 the Alarm Phone was alerted to a boat carrying 17 travelers. They had left from around Boumerdes, Algeria towards Spain in the morning of the 17th September on a white wooden boat. The families had lost contact. Our shift team alerted the Spanish Search and Rescue organization Salvamento Marítimo (SM) in Almería and Palma de Mallorca. We received information about many arrivals on the Balearic Islands in the last days, but we could not confirm with the coast guards if our case was among those boats. We forwarded the contact of the Red Cross the the families, but we had to close without secure information about the whereabouts of the 17 travelers.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets.
