Summary of the case:

On the 31st of May 2021, the Alarm Phone was alerted by a relative about a boat in distress carrying more than 40 people (among them women, children and men). They had started from Zuwara, Libya in a wooden boat and at the last contact to the relative, water had been entering the boat. Our shift team could never establish a connection to the travelers and we had very little information about the case.

We had to close the case without being able to confirm any outcome. According to official information, the travelers were most probably intercepted by the so-called Libyan coast guard and brought back to Tripoli.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets.
