Case name: 2020_12_24-WM545
Situation: Boat carrying 13 people in the Alboran reached Motril safely.
Status of WTM Investigation: Concluded
Place of Incident: Western Mediterranean Sea

Summary of the Case: On Thursday the 24th of December 2020 at 05.40 CET, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted by a relative to a group of 13 travellers, including one woman, in distress in the Alboran Sea. The travellers had left from close to Al Hoceima the day before at around 15.00 CET on a green polyester boat, heading towards Motril. The relative passed on the phone numbers of people on the boat, but we were not able to establish a direct contact to them. At 07.52 CET we called the Spanish search and rescue organisation Salvamento Maritimo and passed on all the information we had via phone and email. From the conversation we could tell that that they were very busy. An hour later we called them back, and they confirmed that they were searching the area with their aircraft, but that also they were unsuccessful in reaching the travellers. At 13.25 CET we learned from the relative that the travellers had arrived safely to Motril.
