Summary of the Case: On Saturday May 26th, the Alarm Phone received a SOS-call by a satellite phone from a French speaking person who talked about 150 people in danger. He was clearly afraid, and may have been speaking about a particularly dangerous situation in or near Libya. Unfortunately, contact broke down, and the satellite phone was not reachable anymore for us. As there was no GPS position, and not enough information, it was difficult for the AP to do more than to inform MRCC in Rome, and to help to recharge their satellite phone to keep them in communication. We finally could not get any further information.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets. In the open sea, it usually correspond to the outer extent of the contiguous zone, the area in which “State may exercise the control necessary to prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws” (UNCLOS, art. 33).
