Summary of the case: On Sunday the 8th of September 2024 just before midnight, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted by a relative to a group of 53 travellers in distress in the Central Mediterranean Sea. They had left from Libya on the 5th of September on a wooden boat. The relative gave us their GPS position and we immediately alerted the relevant search and rescue authorities, relaying all the information we had. We managed to reach the travellers and could hear that their situation was deteriorating as water was entering the boat and the panic among the travellers was increasing. We passed on updates from the boat to the authorities as often as possible. Later, we learned that the travellers had been rescued and brought to Pozzallo, Sicily.

Border police patrols
