Summary of the case: On Sunday the 11th of August 2024, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted by a relative to a group of 50 travellers in distress in the Central Mediterranean Sea. They were travelling on a rubber boat. We got their GPS position from the relative and then immediately alerted the relevant search and rescue authorities, relaying all the information we had. In addition, we alerted nearby merchant vessels to the situation, reminding them of their duty to render assistance to people in distress at sea. For the following days we were not able to find out any news about the fate of the travellers from authorities. We never managed to reach them and their fate remains unknown to us.

Border police patrols
