Summary of the case: On Saturday the 3rd of August 2024, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted to a group of around 45 travellers, including one woman and five children, in distress in the Central Mediterranean Sea. They told us that they were drifting as they had no more fuel left. We managed to get their GPS position and immediately alerted the relevant search and rescue authorities, relaying all the information we had. After our initial call, we lost contact to the travellers. Later, we learned that they had been rescued by the Italian coastguard and brought to Lampedusa.

  • Border police patrols
