Summary of the case: On Wednesday the 31st of July 2024, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted to a group of 16 travellers, including three women and three children, in distress in the Central Mediterranean Sea. They had left from Libya on a black fiberglass boat. They told us that they were exhausted and that the children were sick. We managed to get their GPS position and immediately alerted the relevant search and rescue authorities, relaying all the information we had. We then lost contact to the travellers. We were never able to reach the group again, and did not manage to get any information from authorities. Probably, they were intercepted by the so-called Libyan coastguard.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets.
