Situation: 75 travellers in distress in the Central Med, arrived to Lampedusa.
Status of WTM Investigation: Concluded
Place of Incident: Central Mediterranean
Summary of the case: On Sunday the 30th of June 2024, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted by a relative to a group of around 75 travellers, including at least one child and four women, one of them pregnant, in distress in the Central Mediterranean Sea. They had left from Tajoura, Libya, the previous evening on a grey wooden boat. We received their GPS position from the relative and immediately alerted the relevant search and rescue authorities, relaying all the information we had. We later managed to reach the travellers and passed on their updated position as well as information about the situation onboard, where they had run out of food and drinking water. Later, we learned from relatives that the travellers had arrived safely to Lampedusa.
