Summary of the case: On Monday the 17th of June 2024, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted to a group of around 60 travellers in distress in the Central Mediterranean Sea. They were travelling on a blue wooden boat and told us that they had no more fuel left, that water was entering their boat and that some people had already fallen into the sea. We managed to get their GPS position and immediately alerted the relevant search and rescue authorities, relaying all the information we had. Later, we learned that the NGO vessel Nadir had found the travellers and provided assistance. They had recovered 51 travellers alive, two of them unconscious. They had found 10 dead bodies at the lower deck of the boat. All the survivors were then taken by the Italian coastguard and brought to Lampedusa.

Border police patrols
