Summary of the case: On Friday the 31st of May 2024, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted by a relative to a group of 65 travellers, including two women and three children, in distress in the Central Mediterranean Sea. The travellers had left from Zuwara, Libya, on a blue wooden boat. They told us that they had run out of fuel. We managed to get their GPS position and immediately alerted the relevant search and rescue authorities, relaying all the information we had. We stayed in contact with the travellers and passed on their updated positions to the authorities as often as possible as well as information about the deteriorating situation onboard. Later, we learned from a relative that the travellers had arrived to Lampedusa.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets.
