Summary of the case: On Monday the 20th of May 2024, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted to a group of around 40 travellers, including four women and two children, in distress in the Central Mediterranean Sea. We reached the travellers who told us that their engine had broken and that they were drifting. We managed to get their GPS position and immediately alerted all the relevant search and rescue authorities, relaying all the information we had. Online, we could see that the weather conditions were worsening in the area.
Later, we learned from a relative that the travellers had been intercepted by the so-called Libyan coastguard and brought to Tripoli.
