Summary of the Case:

During the day on the 13th of January, Alarm Phone received a call by a group of 42 people in distress on Lesvos. At the time of the alert, the caller told us that there were several pregnant women and at least one baby among them, and that they were exposed to the cold weather. They also reported that some of them needed medical attention due to health problems.
We alerted authorities at 14:00 CET and were later informed that Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) sent a team to the location. The people were all transferred to a reception and identification center in the island of Lesvos.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets. In the open sea, it usually correspond to the outer extent of the contiguous zone, the area in which “State may exercise the control necessary to prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws” (UNCLOS, art. 33).
