Watch the Med Alarm Phone Investigations - 13th of January 2024
Case name: 2024_01_13-Eastern Med - 014
Situation: 38 people stranded for Lesvos before being assisted of by MSF
Status of WTM Investigation : Concluded
Place of Incident: Eastern Med
Summary of the Case:
In the morning of the 13th of January, the Alarm Phone was alerted by a group of 37 people, including 20 children, 10 men and 7 women, who had arrived on the island of Lesvos in Greece. We were informed that some of them were injured and in need of urgent medical assistance. We sent an email to inform Greek authorities, Frontex and NGOs on the island of the group’s situation and location, informing them that the people needed medical attention and wanted to claim asylum in Greece.
We later received an email from Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) who confirmed they would send a team to look for the people. At around midday, MSF confirmed by email that they had found the group, which consisted of 38 people instead of 37, providing them with medical care.
