Summary of the Case: On the 21st of December, a relative informed Alarmphone about a boat that left from Tan Tan on the 18th of December, heading towards the Canary Islands. The group of around 52 travellers, including four women and some minors, had been 54 km from Las Palmas when their engine stopped working. The Alarmphone shift team relayed all information to the Spanish and Moroccan rescue authorities and tried to find out, if the boat had been found. In the evening of the 21st, the relative informed the Alarmphone shift team that the travellers had been returned to Morocco.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets. In the open sea, it usually correspond to the outer extent of the contiguous zone, the area in which “State may exercise the control necessary to prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws” (UNCLOS, art. 33).
