Summary of the Case: On the 14th of November 2023 the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted by a relative to a group of around 56 people including 1 woman and 2 children lost in the Alboran Sea. The travelers had left in a green wooden boat from Alhoceima on the 14th of November 2023 heading towards Spain. We were not able to establish direct contact to the boat, but immediately alerted the Spanish search and rescue organization Salvamento Maritimo, relaying all the information we had.
The day after, we were informed by relatives that the travelers had been rescued to Motril by the Spanish search and rescue organization Salvamento Maritimo.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets. In the open sea, it usually correspond to the outer extent of the contiguous zone, the area in which “State may exercise the control necessary to prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws” (UNCLOS, art. 33).
