Summary of the Case: On the 3rd of September, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted by a relative to a group of travellers in distress in the Spanish Search and Rescue Zone. The group of around 56 people, including 12 women and three children, had left from Tarfaya, Morocco, in a grey rubber boat. A direct contact from the Alarmphone shift team to the people on the boat could not be established. but they were in direct contact with the relative who relayed the information to the shift team. At that time, the boat was located about 35km from the Canary Islands. The shift team relayed all the information to the Spanish search and rescue organisation Salvamento Maritimo. Soon after, Salvamento Maritimo has confirmed, that a rescue operation of this boat was ongoing.
