Situation: 2 travellers attempting to swim across the Strait of Gibraltar, brought back to Morocco by the Moroccan navy.

Summary of the case: On Monday the 28th of August 2023, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted by a relative to a group of two men attempting to swim across the Strait of Gibraltar. They had left from Ksar es-Seghir. From the relative we were able to get their GPS position as they had brought a phone in a plastic bag. The relative told us that they were exhausted. We immediately alerted the Moroccan rescue authorities, relaying all the information we had. They confirmed that they would coordinate with the Moroccan navy. Later, we learned that the travellers had been returned by the Moroccan navy and were brought to the national police.

Border police patrols
