Summary of the case: On Monday the 19th of June 2023, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted by a relative to a group of 57 travellers, including four women and two children, in distress in the Atlantic Ocean. The travellers had left from Laayoune the previous day in the early hours of the morning on a black rubber boat. We were not able to establish direct contact to the travellers, but received a previous GPS position from the relative. We immediately alerted the Spanish search and rescue organisation Salvamento Maritimo to the distress situation, relaying all the information we had. In the night, Salvamento Maritimo informed us that they had rescued the travellers.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets.
